How to Become a Remote Online Notary in Florida

You must meet several state requirements to become an online Florida notary, including:

  • Hold an active notary commission
  • Complete a RON training course
  • Get a $25,000 notary bond
  • Obtain an errors and omissions policy of at least $25,000
  • Choose a RON service provider
  • Pay the $10 state registration fee
  • Submit your application to the Department of State

About the Remote Online Notary Course

Florida requires all prospective online notaries to complete a two-hour RON course, which is included in our online notary package. The course covers the benefits of remote online notarizations, how the process works, key legal requirements and your duties and obligations as an online notary.

The RON course ends with a multiple-choice final exam. You must score at least 70% to receive your certificate of completion, but you have unlimited attempts to pass.

Choosing a RON Service Provider

Before you submit your online notary application, you must select a RON service provider that satisfies the requirements of state law. These companies offer a wide range of services, which may include:

  • Connecting clients with your business
  • Facilitating video calls for online notarizations
  • Verifying the identity of signers and witnesses
  • Attaching your electronic signature and seal to digital documents
  • Storing electronic journal entries and video footage of your online notarizations
  • Processing payments from your clients

Submitting Your Application

Once you register to become an online notary with Notaries.com and complete your RON training, you must submit the Remote Online Notary Public application to the Department of State.

All you need to do is:

  1. Print and sign the form
  2. Write in your RON service provider
  3. Attach a few required documents
  4. Get the form notarized
  5. Submit your application

Florida currently requires notaries to mail their applications to the address listed on the form. The Department of State will contact you as soon as you are approved to perform remote online notarizations.
